Excuse me, coming through…There is one person refusing to be upstaged by Teddy Ruxpin’s grand reappearance this holiday season – and that’s Elmo. (no last name, he’s like Cher). So basically, with all the hype surrounding Ruxpin’s 2017 release, Tickle Me Elmo was like “Hold my beer.” You may remember his debut 21 years ago. Yes, you’re that old. The frenzy! It was mission impossible to get your hands on this laughing little muppet. In fact, looking back, it’s quite possible he was laughing at us. Don’t call it a comeback, but Tickle Me Elmo is being re-released this fall, just in time for the holiday season (how weird).
What does Tickle Me Elmo do? Press his stomach and he laughs. Keep at it, and he’ll laugh even harder while he moves and shakes. He’s also got some funny phrases as part of his shtick.
So the takeaway here, is that he laughs at pretty much anything. He’s more or less you’re old aunt, or the ridiculously drunk girl at the party. And he’s still every toddler’s hero. They’ll love him, and the softer version of his fur, which makes him more cuddly and snuggly and a little less Optimus Prime-ish.
Helpful hint: Rumor has it, you’ll have to switch him out of “demo mode” or you’ll be doomed to a life of hearing “Elmo is one ticklish monster” for all of eternity. Swap out the demo batteries for 2 AA’s.
