The Review Rundown:
I was a big fan of Hello Fresh. In fact, I still am. But the only thing I didn’t love about them was that I had to actually cook everything. I know you must think I’m lazy, but I consider myself just busy. Who has time for all of this? I had seen a commercial or ten on TV for Freshly and thought the concept seemed pretty interesting. Fresh (and pretty healthy) meals prepared for me from an actual chef and all I have to do is heat it up? Could it be too good to be true?
After seeing an entire Reddit thread about the best meals they’ve ever had thanks to Freshly, I decided to take the plungeand figured what was the worst that can happen? I wasn’t ready to commit to their cost effective 12 meals per week plan, but I was ready to test drive 4 meals for 1 week and see how it went. I answered a few simple questions and made sure nothing they sent me had peanuts in it (allergic) and I was trying to keep it somewhat healthy.
The meals I got were actually good. Like, oddly good. My favorite was the chicken parm with broccoli. They all arrived packaged really well and all I had to do was toss it my microwave for around 3 1/2 minutes. That’s it. Now, I spent a bit more on these meals than I really wanted, but that was mainly my fault because I chose the least amount of meals possible for the week because I was afraid to commit. This brought the price per meal to increase a bit. If you get more meals you can actually get each meal for less than $8.50, which is pretty affordable. Check out all their options here.
There are a few different ways to “heat up” your Freshly meals. The easiest way is to just microwave it. That’s what I usually do when I don’t have time to go with other options or, honestly, just don’t feel like doing anything else. They also recommend to heat it up in a skillet on top of your stove or you can place your meal into a baking dish and toss it in the oven for 20-30+ minutes depending on which meal you’re heating up.
The option that I feel made the meal taste the most authentic and “home cooked” is the skillet option. It takes longer than the microwave but way less time than the oven. I did try the oven option and, honestly, it didn’t taste much different than the skillet, but kind of takes a while. Too long for me! Look, the microwave options is actually really decent and usually my go-to, it just makes it taste a tiny bit microwave-y.
If I’m being totally transparent, getting my meals prepared and sent to me for the week basically makes me feel like a Kardashian or Oprah. Or a combo of both. It also was a great way for me to try new things that I normally wouldn’t. Each meal comes with just one serving so it’s also a decent way for me to try and stay on track without overindulging. Sometimes I’m still a little hungry after, but usually it’s enough to keep me satisfied. I’m excited to see which new meals they come out with next! And bring on the desserts please!
These are a Few of Our Favorite Things:
If this all sounds appealing to you and you’re ready to feel like a Kardashian (like me), I put together a couple of my favorite things at Freshly to help get you started:
- Their Meal Plans + Pricing Options – Check It Out Here
- How to Gift a Meal Plan – Check It Out Here
- Their Official 15% Off Discount – Check It Out Here
Legit Pros:
- It couldn’t be any easier. Just heat and eat!
- The price per meal is less than when I cook meals myself.
- I was able to have all meals peanut free (there are other dietary restrictions to choose from too).
- Everything actually tastes really good (better than I could make it).
Legit Cons:
- The oven option takes longer than I’d care to commit to.
- I wish the portions were just a bit bigger.
The Real Deal With Coupons + Promo Codes:
I’m a total snob when it comes finding amazing deals and especially when it comes to finding a promo code to help me save some money. I researched for quite a bit to find a working coupon for Freshly. The usual go-to sites did have some, but I was out of luck when trying it on my order.
I did see a few commercials where they state their coupon code is: TV40 / You can give that a try here, but not sure if it’ll work for you.
At last look you can save $40 when you refer a friend and they place and order (they’ll get $40 off too, which is generous). So whether you find a coupon or not, just check them out because they’ll have all their latest offers there right on their homepage.
So for now, check out some of our fave promos from Freshly in January 2023.
