So, your kid is asking if they can play hockey. There’s so much equipment. Where to begin? Well, a solid, quality pair of skates is a great start. While so many of them look the same, they’re definitely not all created equal. They run from well-made, beginner skates – at a decent price point, to all out top of the line. At the end of the day, a decent pair is worth the money. Many will attest to the difference in their kids skating – once they switched from rentals, over to a quality pair of their own. Not to mention, the longevity of quality skates means you can pass them along to siblings (or good friends!). We’ve chosen some of our favorite youth and junior hockey skates below. (Note: Hockey skates typically size down – a size, to a size and a half from their shoe size. Check sizing charts).
1. Bauer Vapor 1X Youth Ice Hockey Skates – Check It Out Here
A top of the line option. The Vapor offers a standard fit – which is a standard width through the toebox, with a narrower fit in the heel and ankle.
2. Bauer Supreme S160 Youth Ice Hockey Skates – Check It Out Here
A solid, quality skate, with many of the same features as the Vapor, but at a fraction of the price. Lined with Hydrophobic Microfiber and lightweight ankle padding (memory foam ankle pads).
3. CCM Tacks 4092 Youth Ice Hockey Skates – Check It Out Here
Solid entry-level skate, perfect for the kid that is into hockey – and will keep playing. Features a brushed microfiber liner for comfort, high resistance to wear and tear, and an elevated heel for greater strides and cornering.
4. CCM Ribcor 64K Youth Ice Hockey Skates – Check It Out Here
Great entry level skate for kids who are starting out, but you’re unsure if they’ll stick with the game for the long haul. A softer boot provides comfort, and also can work for kids with a wider foot.
5. CCM Tacks 2092 Youth Ice Hockey Skates – Check It Out Here
Better than an entry level skate, but on sale for an entry level price make this a great deal on a solid pair of skates. A brushed micro-fiber liner and an injected outsole, these are supportive and comfortable.
6. Bauer Junior Supreme 150 Skate – Check It Out Here
Solid heel and ankle support, these are built for long and powerful strides. A great skate at a great price point. Good for a beginner who is ready to hit the ice skating.
7. CCM JetSpeed FT360 Junior Ice Hockey Skates – Check It Out Here
These junior skates provide comfort and support, while also focusing on durability. The SPEEDBLADE 4.0 provides durability for greater strides and cornering.
